CrunchGear has posted speculation that they have found in some pro-video forums stating that Apple is or has sold off Final Cut Studio and other pro applications to an unnamed buyer. They cited no specific sources.

HUDCast is not in the business of rumors and we have no desire to be but this needed some commentary.

I don’t see Apple doing this for a couple of reasons.

First, why would they sell off one of the biggest reasons why people buy Mac Pros. Steve Jobs is almost to the point of being OCD when you talk about controling the whole widget. They want to be all inclusive. Apple has never liked to depend on others.

Secondly, Final Cut Pro is rapidly gaining acceptance in the larger production houses. Movies like Balls of Fury and Cold Mountain have been edited in Final Cut Pro and the numbers are growing every year. It would make no sense for Apple to sell this off when there is an even greater potential for them to make money from it.

Here is what could happen: they spin off the Pro apps into it’s own company. Still semi-controled by Apple, it would be free to innovate away from Apple’s consumer focused divisions but still have access to Apple’s hardware divisions. I honestly seriously doubt this would happen but Apple is always one to surprise people.

There are also rumors floating around that there is an Apple Event at the end of this month. Who knows what they will announce at that event.

Apple announced today that it will not be attending the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in 2008. They cited lower attendance for the move and that they have found better and more cost effective ways of reaching their core clients, namely their Apple branded retail stores. This comes as two knocks against the NAB conference as Avid also announced that they would not be attending this year as well.
